Introduction

Sweden is a Scandinavian country with a population of 10 million, located in the nordic region of Europe. Education has been a corner stone of Swedish society since a long time ago.

Swedish Law Degree Program

The Swedish Law Degree Program – called Juristprogrammet – is a four and a half year higher education program. The minimum education level requirement for admission to a law program is high school education - meaning high school graduates are eligible to apply and be admitted to a law program using only necessary high school grades.

In addition to admission by high school grades, students are also able to apply to a law program by taking the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test (SweSAT). This test is called Högskoleprovet in Swedish. The SweSAT is a written exam that aims to evaluate students in three main subjects: Swedish Language, English Language and Mathematics.

Quotas for student admissions are divided at varying percentages; Available law school quotas are arranged such that roughly out of all available admission seats; 67% go to applicants with high school grades and 33% go to applicants with SweSAT grades. For more information please refer to respective law school faculty.

Partner Universities and Exchange Opportunities

Each academic semester law students from different countries and partner universities participate in exchange programs, giving students to study abroad and gain new perspective on their academic studies. Applying for an exchange program may depend on how semesters the law student has completed. It is typical that law students apply for exchange programs towards the end of their law education. This may typically coincide with their fourth year at the law degree program.

Depending on the agreements and framework partnerships that Law Schools from different countries have with one another, law student are able to travel abroad and study at the host university. For Swedish law students apply and traveling within the European Union is most practical from cost and logistics perspective. Exchange programs are almost always in English.
